Hello Trojans!
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I'm thrilled to be teaching in the Maroa-Forsyth school district! While my family and I have lived in the community for several years, I can now say that I am honored to be educating the students in this well-respected district too.
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and earned my undergraduate degree at Elmhurst College, but I truly call central Illinois my home! My 20 years of teaching in the Mahomet-Seymour school district, has prepared me well as an English educator. Throughout my career, I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade language arts. While in Mahomet, I earned a master's degree at the University of Illinois in Curriculum Technology and Education reform. In addition, I have received much professional development in the areas of reading and writing instruction.
Like you, family is important to me. Because of my experiences being a mother of two boys, I know and understand the triumphs and challenges of parenthood, so I can relate to your child's needs in the classroom. I strive to attend to all of your child's emotional and educational needs, and I look forward to working with you to help your child grow as a person and learner.
My curriculum focuses on teaching and assessing the English portion of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Briefly, these standards address: sentence structure, grammar, conventions, vocabulary, narrative, expository and argumentative writing. In addition to different types of writing, the English standards address producing and publishing those writing pieces. If you would like more information about the CCSS, please visit my resource page.
Again, I'm excited to be teaching at Maroa-Forsyth Middle School. I will care for your child as I care for my own. If you see me around, please introduce yourself! I'm anxious to meet and work with all of you this school year! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
GO TROJANS!
